José Bassit was born in 1957, in São Paulo city. He is been a photo-journalist since 1985 and, he has had his works published by the main Brazilian newspapers and magazines. In 2003, he edited the book “Imagens Fiéis” (Editora Cosac & Naify), on the Brazilian people’s religion and faith. His works compose the patrimony of institutions such as the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo and the Museu de Arte de São Paulo.


Among the main individual expos which he has partaken are: The London Underground, at the Santa Cecília Metro’s station, São Paulo (1985); “Por onde anda a fé”, at “Centro Cultural Fiesp”, São Paulo, within months of the V International Photography (2001); “Imagens Fiéis”, at “Centro de Estudos Brasileiros em Maputo”, Moçambique (2003); “Cortes Modernos”, at Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, São Paulo (2004); “Rememorações”, at “Espaço Porto Seguro de Fotografia”, São Paulo (2006); “Instalação Cortes Modernos”, at “Sesc Pompéia”, São Paulo (2007); “Imagens Fiéis”, at Museo de los Ninõs, in San José , Costa Rica (2008).


Among the main collective expos the following ones stand out: “III Bienal de Fotografia de Curitiba”, Paraná (2000); “Acts of Faiths”, at Contemporary Brazilian Photograph, at Asmolean Museum, Oxford, England (2002); Brasiliens Gesichter, at Ludwig Museum, Kloblens, Alemanha (2005); Brésil, Hèritage Africain, at Musée Dapper, Paris, França (2005).
